Sharon Faulke

Events & Conferencing Manager

I have worked in the hospitality industry for 22 years and have been working as part of the Keele Conference and Events team since 2005. My role is focused on providing support to Keele University Colleagues who wish to host a conference or event. I also provide support to both Keele University Colleagues and Commercial Organisers who need assistance with managing their delegate bookings, speakers, exhibition, and registration staff during their event.

Dealing with the bookings and organising the logistics for an event can be very time consuming for organisers, who often try to do this alongside full time jobs, so we are here to provide the expertise and support they need to ensure a successful event.

Favourite Things: My beautiful daughter Maddison who is just starting to walk and my husband’s food – he’s a head chef! Saying that, I don’t think you can beat a glass of wine and a Chinese takeaway – but don’t tell the hubby!

Interesting Fact: I once refused a table to Right Said Fred because we were fully booked. I’ve served breakfast to numerous celebrities, including Blue. My best career moment was when Paul Weller gave me a bottle of champagne.

Joanne Goode

Events & Conferencing Manager

I have worked in the Hospitality Industry for over 17 years and being working as part of the Keele Conferences & Events team in 2003.  I started as an Event Organiser with an emphasis on organising Weddings, Banquets and day conferences.  After a short time in the team I was promoted to a Sales & Events Executive, being more involved in Sporting Events, Summer Schools and Large Residential Conferences.  Within my role I am also involved with the University Events such as the co-ordination of the Open Days and the Student Enrolment Activity.
 
As part of this role we need to have strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise.  The main essential is good customer service skills and build a relationship with clients so they return in the future.
 
Each week can be so varied, you could be dealing with a day meeting for 2 people to organising a large sporting event for 2000 people.
 
Favourite Things: Going on holiday and having fun with friends and family
 
Interesting Fact: I competed in the 1998 Commonwealth Swimming Trials and the 2000 Olympic Trials.

Kathryn Cannell

Senior Events & Conferencing Manager

After completing my degree in Hospitality I spent 10 years working across the South East in a range of 4 and 5 star hotels in reservations and front of house roles. I joined the Keele Conference Team in January 2000 as an events co-ordinator and progressed to Sales and Events Manager . I am now the Yield & Revenue Manager and I work with my conference team colleagues to maximise revenue and yield of our facilities. My role also involves co-ordination with all our departments across the University to ensure we provide a first class service to all our clients. My team develops links with our repeat clients, both external and from our internal colleagues in the University and encourages new business from these links, We oversee the event management from confirmation to feedback, providing a dedicated link for the client throughout the whole event.

Favourite Things: I spend the majority of my spare time with my husband and 2 children visiting all sorts of interesting places on our days off. We enjoy a good restaurant meal and weekends away when we get the chance!

Interesting Fact: I have come across many famous people in my hotel career and had to attempt to tie Kevin Keegan’s bow tie, explain to Carol Vorderman why we had double booked her room and send her to another hotel and write a love note to Andre Agassi from Kelly Brooke who called whilst he was asleep – oh and super models don’t look very “super “without 5 hours in a hotel room with a make-up artist and hairdresser- there is hope for us all yet!
